Silva Bay is at the south end of Gabriola Island and about 26 nautical miles from the Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival on Granville Island, across the Strait from Silva Bay. Going south it's about 55 nautical miles from Silva Bay to Victoria's Inner Harbour and the Victoria Classic Boat Festival.

Silva Bay Marina is at the site of the old CNN dock.The Shipyard School buildings are part of the historic Withey Shipyard where wooden patrol vessels were built during World War 11; Withey Shipyard has a long tradition of building wooden vessels, from fish boats to yachts to the small traditional boats that are built by the Wooden Boatbuilding students.
